Fallen Age Info Digest #16: June 24, 2001 – June 30, 2001

The following list of statements are the highlights of issues discussed on the forums over at ‘The Official Site‘ over the past week by Savant. E made a few posts, but they were non-substantial. No posts made by Drysart.

The biggest portion of this week is that the new client/patch is now available for download. – If you are a beta tester, you should have received an email with a link to the location to download it from. – It is highly recommended to download a utility to make downloading easier, such as GetRight. – GetRight will allow you to download up to 8 segments at a time from mirrored sites, and can be setup to start downloading at specified times, and autoresume. – If you need help using GetRight, hit me up in #fallenage on irc.stratics.com. Expect the download to take anywhere from 2-40 hours depending upon your connection speed.

  • Savant: In response to “Why is the site slow”, The site is loading slow because everyone is downloading the new client as of last night. Things should stabilize again in a couple days.

  • Savant: We’ll be letting a new group of testers in in a couple weeks once we get all the kinks worked out from the latest patch.


Patch

  • Savant: A quick update [June 26, 2001] on beta status:
    • Korea just finished the unification of the source code.
    • Remember last week when I told you guys that since Korea took so long with this, it gave us enough time to finish the level 100-199 content too? Well, they just sent us about 50 or so files from their part that we need to fix up (engrish). Once we’re done with this, everything should be in order to patch.
    • Drysart and I are still up right now trying to get these done (jesus just realized it’s 1 am! Heh).
    • I’ll send out build notes (via email and on the boards) detailing as best I can the new additions and bug fixes etc.
    • Please just keep in mind that even if we do finish these within the next day or so, it is still up to them when we patch. I just wanted to keep you all in the loop as to where we stand.


Build Notes

  • Savant: Official Build Notes v1.58 – Fallen Age: These are the official build notes for the big patch. This is a pretty hefty download (doubling current content as well as new features) so it is going to require a new client which we will link for you to download within the next couple days (it’s 150 megs). Once we begin allowing you to download the new client, we will be changing all the server-side data, which means you will not be able to access the game with the old clients. Please keep in mind that we’re still in early Beta, so there will be bugs, some from before, some new ones introduced. The patch may even break things that were working fine before. Please try to understand that that’s why we’re in Beta, and be patient. You will run into lots of typos and Engrish, so give us time while we correct those as well.     • New PK system launched
      • All players begin with their name in WHITE.
      • When you initiate an attack against another player, your name turns ORANGE for 3 minutes.
      • If you kill someone with an ORANGE name, you receive NO PK count.
      • If you kill someone with a RED name, you receive NO PK count.
      • If you kill someone with a WHITE name, you receive a PK count.
      • If you kill THREE WHITE named players, your name will turn RED.
      • If you are killed by another player while your name is RED, you will resurrect in prison.
      • To be released from prison, you must serve a mandatory 15 MINUTES (in-game time) and kill X number of monsters that roam within the prison. X represents the number of WHITE named players you killed before ending up in jail (So if you kill 30 WHITE names before you are killed, you must kill 30 monsters while within prison).
      • RED named characters (PK’s) are charged 30% extra at vendors.
      • If your TOTAL PK count is over 50 (this is aside from going to prison for 3+ murders) your name ends up on an in-game BOUNTY BOARD. Those who find and kill players with a bounty on their heads, become BOUNTY HUNTERS, and have their name placed on an in-game BOUNTY HUNTER BOARD. (The Bounty Hunter board is a ladder, the highest Bounty kills is listed at the top).
    • Secure Trade is in! This is quite simple to use, it’s one of the options when you SHIFT+LEFT CLICK on another player (same as pulling up their profile to take a look or challenge to a Deathmatch).
    • The original map has changed. Town and surrounding areas may look a little different now. [Picture of the map may be found here] [2022 EDIT: TODO FIXLINK]
    • Level 100-199 content is now in. This includes new monsters, items, maps, and quests.
    • 343 new items introduced. [Previous 255 with some inaccessible, now 520 total, of which you can find here.] [2022 EDIT: TODO FIXLINK]
    • A dozen new monsters unleashed.
    • New spells and skills for each class!
    • Levels 100-130 quests released.
    • A brand new dungeon has opened – 3 levels deep!
    • Guardians (guards) now patrol town! (Beware would-be attackers and PK’s!)
    • A brand new patch program and patch process is introduced, to make patching and updating the files easier. Also those who had problems patching the first version of the client should be ok now.
    • New Left Hand items introduced. These items are directed towards helping balance Shamans and Esper’s. Left Hand items will mainly be magical in nature.
    • Some cards with the choppiness bug should see considerable improvement. We are hard at work at the others.
    • Those of you who could not adjust SFX volume can rest easy now.
    • Item drops for lower levels have increased both in frequency and value.
    • +40 potions have decreased in weight from 4 to 3 pounds.
    • +80 potions have decreased in weight from 8 to 6 pounds.
    • Haste and Slow spells (for Shaman) have improved. Haste now adds +2 to speed instead of +1, and Slow subtracts -2 instead of -1. The spells also last 1 minute now.
    • Newbie Quest added for level 1 – 10. Better rewards for this quest.
    • Monster drops now land closer to the corpse.
    • Bank limitations on Withdraws and Deposits have been upped from 20,000 to 1,000,000 Juno.
    • Many bug fixes for Colony Mode (including a notorious crash bug!)
    • Countless balance tweaks for each class.We are now at identical stages as the Koreans. Both sides have the exact same versions and we move forward in parallel now.
